Boston Port Authority is established.

Created by the Massachusetts legislature, it is governed by an unpaid board composed of two members appointed by the governor and three by the mayor. The board is subsequently increased to seven members with three appointed by the governor and four by the mayor. Originally funded by the city, the board is funded jointly by the city and the state beginning in 1939.
